Analysis Categories¶
Categories organize the Analysis Panel into focused workspaces, each containing a curated set of category cards relevant to a specific aspect of variant interpretation. You create categories tailored to your analysis needs.
Creating a Category¶
- Click the Start Review button in the table view.
- Click New Category or the + button in the category selector.
- Enter a category name and optional description.
- Select the category cards to include in this category from the available card library.
- Arrange the cards in your preferred layout.
- Click Save.
The new category appears in the category selector.
Example Categories¶
Here are some examples of categories you might create for common workflows:
- Variant Info: Coordinates, consequence, impact, REF/ALT alleles, variant type.
- Gene Info: Gene symbol, transcript, biotype, HGNC ID, strand.
- Classification: ClinVar significance, ClinGen assertions, review status.
- Allele Frequency: gnomAD, 1000 Genomes Project, ExAC, population-specific frequencies.
- Prediction Scores: SIFT, PolyPhen, CADD, REVEL, MutationTaster, conservation scores.
Moving Columns Between Categories¶
You can reassign any column to a different category directly from the analysis panel:
- Click the column badge (the category label shown on the column).
- A popup displays all available categories.
- Select the category you want to move the column to.
- The column is reassigned immediately.
This makes it easy to reorganize your categories as your analysis workflow evolves.

Tips¶
- Create task-specific categories: If you regularly perform a specific type of analysis (e.g., hereditary cancer panel review), create a category with exactly the cards you need.
- Share through projects: Categories created within a project are available to all project members.
- Combine with AIVA Chat: Use categories for structured analysis and AIVA Chat for ad-hoc questions and deep dives.
